Making Sense of the Brain

Course Description
A community education session on brain development and its implications for parenting and early childhood practice, co-delivered to participants at community agencies serving young mothers and families.
Co-developed and co-delivered with colleagues at the Jean Tweed Centre (2023–present). This session applies Dr. Bruce Perry’s work on relational neuroscience to parenting contexts, making complex brain science accessible to community participants with varied educational backgrounds.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand foundational concepts in brain development across early childhood
- Connect neuroscience concepts to everyday parenting and caregiving decisions
- Recognize how adversity and trauma affect developing brains
