Mom and Kids Too Parenting Program
Course Description
A six-module parenting curriculum covering attachment theory, social and emotional development, discipline, child safety, and nutrition. Redesigned, manualized, and delivered across multiple cohorts to mothers navigating recovery and complex family circumstances.
A community-based parenting program delivered at the Jean Tweed Centre for Women and Their Families (2020–present). This curriculum was redesigned, updated, and manualized by Kristin MacDonald to formalize content across six modules. The program is delivered to mothers navigating addiction recovery, housing instability, and complex family circumstances, and applies Universal Design for Learning principles throughout to ensure accessibility across varied literacy levels, languages, and learning histories.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand attachment theory and its implications for parent-child relationships
- Apply trauma-informed frameworks to everyday parenting decisions
- Recognize the social and emotional needs of young children at different developmental stages
- Develop practical discipline strategies grounded in connection rather than compliance
- Access community resources to support child and family wellbeing
